What is the deadline to apply for the Sankofa Film Institute?

The application deadline is Monday, November 4th.

Do I need any prior film experience to participate?

No. You need only to be willing to explore your own film storytelling identity.  Do you have an urge to tell a story?  Your story?  All ages of filmmakers and people who have not yet made a film are welcome to apply. 

Can I work while participating in this workshop series?

Given the all-day and intensive nature of the workshop, participants are expected to be able to actually immerse themselves with minimal outside commitments. It is a full-time commitment from January 12th - February 22nd.

When will this program take place?

The Sankofa Film Institute will run a duration of 6 weeks; from Monday, January 12th 2025 to Saturday, February 22, 2025.

Will the workshop end in the completion of a film?

At the end of this immersion workshop, successful students will be empowered to take the next step in filmmaking. This workshop should be thought of as the “Pre-Pre-Production” session that provides the basis for the next stages or pre-production, production, and post-production.

How much will it cost to participate in this workshop series?

Tuition for the Sankofa Film Institute is $1,500 (USD).

When is the payment deadline?

The payment deadline is Dec 2nd.

Does tuition include accommodation and food?

No, the tuition dos not include housing, food or transport. Participants are expected to take care of their own accommodation.
